I just recently learned about the iPad's feature, Guided Access.

This feature allows a teacher, a parent, a SLP the ability to select an App and disable the Home button and other features so that the student remains in the App selected.  A device loaded with engaging Apps can make it difficult for a student to "stay in one place." Let's face it, it is fun to explore.  But, there are times when Apps are carefully selected to assist a student in learning a particular skill, and now you have some control.

Directions for Guided Access:
1) Go to Settings Menu
2) Go to General
3) Go to Accessibility
4) Under the heading Learning, Go to Guided Access
5) Turn Guided Access ON and set a Passcode
6) Open desired App
7) Tripple click the Home button
9) Press Start in the right hand corner
10) To exit Guided Access, Tripple click the Home button and select Cancel in the left hand corner
